[00:00:00] So yes, message is absolutely the number one thing that's gonna cause people like we'll watch

[00:00:06] VHS tapes of Jim Rohn talking black and white he's spoken on stages and when they set up a stage

[00:00:13] He's dressed nicely. He's not wearing rags. He's not wearing sweatshirts and sweatpants. I don't know

[00:00:25] What is a way to increase production value?

[00:00:29] Well, it's all about lighting Apple did their last event in October using the iPhone 15 Pro Max

[00:00:36] But the lighting that spent $120,000 on light I've been creating video content for others

[00:00:42] For a word that get in half

[00:00:44] But when I when I was starting out creating content on camera

[00:00:48] I was like terrified but what did help?

[00:00:51] What actually helped was

[00:00:54] Hey, I'm Luis. I'm this is Luis and welcome to the content is profit podcast in here

[00:01:38] That's right guys our our guest today. It's a very important person in our life

[00:01:44] Might have changed my opinion around equipment and production just a tiny bit which will shut in just a second

[00:01:51] He's also the master of building studio. He's raising four kids. I'm racing too. I'm going crazy

[00:01:56] I was just telling Fancy about crazy my tail wanted to jump off the couch yesterday

[00:02:01] He's also launching different podcasts in a published author and last time he gave me a kids book

[00:02:06] Which is amazing. He's like every time I meet him

[00:02:08] There's like a new gadget. I knew thing that he's doing and he's super exciting and I cannot wait

[00:02:12] I'm curious to learn how he does all that with four kids

[00:02:16] Also, I think he's super proud. I think his podcast has over 400 episodes like 450 episodes

[00:02:21] Which is absolutely insane. I mean he's trying to catch up to us baby. Let's go

[00:02:26] No easy fit and I guess let's bring him on you good yeah all right guys with that said please welcome our dear friend

[00:02:35] June

[00:02:38] Welcome June

[00:02:41] Hey, hey guys so excited to be here

[00:02:44] You know I've known you guys for a long time

[00:02:47] But it wasn't till the last couple of years that we actually started hanging out and started having a conversation

[00:02:53] So super excited to be here on the

[00:02:55] Absolutely. I mean, I mean be honest right it was Fancy's smell at the events right? That's why you never approaches and having conversations

[00:03:03] You know my aura can be a little bit intimidating at times I understand

[00:03:07] But you know people might be watching this right now they're saying wow, Jean-Nade has such a cool setup

[00:03:14] And if you're only listening to this and you've been to events like podfist podcasts movement

[00:03:20] You probably have seen you Nate. He is the one cool guy with the box that literally brings all the equipment perfect for recording

[00:03:29] Right is I think it's called studio in a box he

[00:03:33] Yeah, go ahead

[00:03:35] It's called the go box it's called the go box studio

[00:03:40] For video portable production studio in a box that you could roll on with you set it up in two minutes and you know start creating

[00:03:47] Content because that yeah, absolutely. I'm gonna start with this and we're at the episode there

[00:03:51] That's it

[00:03:54] We're gonna start with this we have a believe that

[00:03:59] Quality of the message is more important than quality of their production

[00:04:03] And I want to lead with that because I totally understand also the value of the production. I like

[00:04:08] Things that look cool right? I like to create things that also look absolutely amazing and that they have the touch

[00:04:16] Is that a recovery perfectionist too, but at the exactly at the same time

[00:04:21] You know at the very beginning of your journey we try to have this awesome production

[00:04:27] And things didn't work out it was too much friction for us

[00:04:30] So I just wanted to start with that statement because I know you are the master of high quality production

[00:04:35] And again look at your set right you got that change of cameras every time you go

[00:04:39] I think people already recognize you as you know the home studio guy the studio in a box like you're absolutely amazing

[00:04:47] So I'm curious what is your take on maybe somebody that might be starting on their journey that they're starting to create content

[00:04:53] What is that right balance between production and messaging?

[00:04:57] Excellent question Fonzie or do I call you can call me both you know one works

[00:05:05] At the same time, I don't know I'm gonna do that but

[00:05:11] Excellent question because you know when I was starting out

[00:05:16] No just to go a little bit into my background. I've been creating video content for others

[00:05:22] Forward decade and a half

[00:05:24] So I've got the technology down. I've got the staging down

[00:05:27] I got the lighting like all of that stuff down

[00:05:30] And I was counting on other people that are showing up on the film on the camera

[00:05:35] To have their messaging down

[00:05:37] Right, but when it came time for me to be in front of the camera. I was like oh my god

[00:05:41] This is hard. This is so hard. I don't know how to do it right?

[00:05:44] So I struggled I struggled with being good on camera

[00:05:49] But what I did know that I needed to work on my messaging

[00:05:53] Right, so yes

[00:05:54] I have this massive experience of setting up studios and I was able to do that for myself

[00:06:00] but when I when I was starting out creating content on camera

[00:06:04] I was like terrified. I was like I don't know how to do this

[00:06:07] But what did help

[00:06:09] What actually helped was that I had an ongoing podcast that I'd been doing for two and a half years

[00:06:15] That helped

[00:06:17] Being in Toastmaster for over four years that helped

[00:06:21] So you've got to work on the person that's delivering the message

[00:06:25] So yes, message is absolutely the number one thing that's going to cause people

[00:06:29] Like we'll watch VHS tapes of Jim Rohn talking black and white

[00:06:34] We'll watch these things because they've got the messaging now. They've worked on themselves

[00:06:39] They worked on how to deliver that so that's absolutely number one

[00:06:45] But what do you do to stop the people on the tracks

[00:06:49] You got to have the good production as well. You got to go hand in hand with both

[00:06:53] So get that message down and even if it's crackly

[00:06:58] Your followers are still going to listen to that message because they know who you are

[00:07:02] and

[00:07:05] They're on back up a little bit about messaging right so Jim Rohn

[00:07:10] He's spoken on stages

[00:07:12] And when they set up a stage he's dressed nicely. He's not wearing rags. He's not wearing

[00:07:18] sweatshirts and sweatpants. I don't know

[00:07:27] He's on stage delivering the best message because again, you know, he's a network marketer

[00:07:32] So

[00:07:34] There's there's there's both things but he i'm sure that we when he first started he worked on the messaging too

[00:07:39] So you got to work on the messaging because that shows your true

[00:07:44] Tensity to who you are. Yeah

[00:07:46] By the way when I was like walking from from the jp to the office

[00:07:49] I'm like, I look like an Italian mobster with a sweatpants and sweatshirt today

[00:07:54] Clearly it transmits through camera today

[00:07:58] Let's go but uh

[00:08:00] I mean obviously i'm excited, you know where I think we're both like very geeky in the fact that we like tech

[00:08:06] And then you know, I'm the guy that likes the tech but doesn't want to look under the hood

[00:08:10] I'm like, oh, you know, this is all the data right?

[00:08:12] It's like how it looks nice. You know, it feels nice

[00:08:15] And that's me kind of like if i ever do a like a tech review it's gonna be like well this computer works

[00:08:22] Right, but everything we see you at events right you have all these incredible ecosystem of of things

[00:08:28] To make production so easy and I remember when we were talking about the the studio in our box, right

[00:08:33] We're talking about this like friction to create and like you mentioned you've helped a ton of people that

[00:08:38] You were counting on them to have their message right, right?

[00:08:41] And then on our side we've seen a similar story with stuff like that right

[00:08:44] We you know, we have a post-production service where we clip things and how it started was like okay

[00:08:49] Our ideal client somebody that knows their message that you just need the help with the production aspect

[00:08:54] But then we started connecting with a lot of people that they thought they had their message ready

[00:08:58] But then after a few recordings

[00:09:00] There's a lot of work that we had to do internally right or they didn't have the right home set

[00:09:04] I was like why is the video quality not the best?

[00:09:07] I'm like well

[00:09:08] What is the equipment that we're recording with right?

[00:09:10] It's like you know

[00:09:11] You're recording with your 720 camera from the laptop

[00:09:14] With very poor internet so that you know, we're getting the zoom recording

[00:09:18] It might not be the best footage that we can get right but at the same time

[00:09:22] It's like there's there's a balance that I think people have to start recognizing between the message and

[00:09:28] And the output so on our side

[00:09:31] That that gap

[00:09:33] kept us from publishing for about a year because we thought the production level had to be taking care of first

[00:09:38] And there's a lot of friction because we didn't really know the equipment

[00:09:41] We didn't have the right equipment at the time or the flow

[00:09:44] And when we decided guys, let's remove the friction on the production

[00:09:48] Which is going to be a live stream through an iPhone on Facebook and

[00:09:52] Increased consistency. That's what allows like you said

[00:09:55] To create consistently get stronger with the message and then little by little start upgrading to the point now that we have a physical studio

[00:10:02] Which is crazy right?

[00:10:04] So 100% on your side like what are

[00:10:09] For somebody that's starting out right they're like okay, I have my message. What is inaccessible?

[00:10:14] I think I really want to get into the equipment because I

[00:10:17] Pots fest I think a year ago. Wait before can I add something before we dive into the equipment some more

[00:10:23] Typical stuff because I do want to go there as well. I'm very curious to you know

[00:10:27] Get some some tips especially for that person listening that might be asking themself

[00:10:32] How do I increase the value of my production maybe with what I have at the moment right but before diving into that

[00:10:38] I'm very curious on

[00:10:40] Well, first I want to make a remark on having your own studio having a place of itself

[00:10:45] That is just huge volume removing friction when we started off for first podcast Bruce and bros

[00:10:51] We spend a hour

[00:10:53] Every single time we were trying to record just setting up the studio because we didn't have a spot

[00:10:58] It was my room

[00:10:59] We had to move the bed. We have to place the lights take out the equipment from the closet

[00:11:04] That alone

[00:11:06] You know made us record only five episodes and leave the podcast somewhere in there without finishing

[00:11:12] So the fact of having a place

[00:11:15] I'm sure that office all the equipment that you have in there

[00:11:18] You don't move that probably for anything. Do you just press a button and can you show?

[00:11:23] Okay, show on your screen for the people watching the video kind of how it looks which is super cool there

[00:11:29] Beautiful amazing multiple screens the camera as they're lighting

[00:11:33] You know people might see that and they might become a little bit overwhelmed like wow

[00:11:37] Do I need to set up all this all that thing but guess what just like

[00:11:42] As most things in life

[00:11:44] They require an investment of front whether that is obviously time or financial investment

[00:11:50] And you invested obviously your knowledge and your time on setting that up

[00:11:53] It might have taken you a full day

[00:11:56] But the benefit is now that you're consisting for over 400 episodes on your podcast

[00:12:02] Multiple interviews with other people right if it's off to have a spot where you record or podcast

[00:12:07] That's what we did when we started content is profit

[00:12:10] We had a little tiny office

[00:12:11] We said that is a corner where we're gonna record

[00:12:14] It was nothing compared to what you have right there at the moment

[00:12:17] But we did a little setup that take us literally like five minutes on turning it on you know place in the phone

[00:12:24] And it removed the friction and guess what now we are close to 500 episodes if not a 500 episodes

[00:12:30] Now the question I want to add before we move into the more tactical aspects of the conversation is

[00:12:37] I'm curious on the correlation

[00:12:39] That you've seen with you and your clients between you know production

[00:12:44] And increase of output like in a way does it affect their confidence?

[00:12:48] Are they more excited to produce more content right does it increase that output

[00:12:52] And also the correlation on the bottom line of their business right does the production value also in a way is tied to

[00:13:01] Increasing profits

[00:13:05] Well, I would say yes

[00:13:07] Here's how right it's number one

[00:13:10] Just a little backstory on how I got started. I got started like yourself you know on my phone my first

[00:13:16] Season on hacks and hobbies was recorded in my car on my phone

[00:13:22] While I'm commuting from and back to you know to work yeah, so I put in the reps. I got better at it

[00:13:28] And that's like okay. I need to

[00:13:31] Go to the next level. How do I get to the next level? You know, so I was novice

[00:13:35] On to the high-be-level like how do I get to that high-be-level? Well

[00:13:38] Let's invest in the microphone. Let's do it in my office

[00:13:42] Let's have a conversation with other people so start inviting people

[00:13:46] again time after time we got better and better and better and

[00:13:51] Because that pandemic I you know spend time in setting up the studio now before I even set up this studio

[00:13:56] I was invited to speak on stage

[00:13:59] I'll add a linkedin local event on

[00:14:02] iPhone video production or mastering mastering iPhone video production

[00:14:06] How do you use your smartphone to create video content and the reason this guy asked me is because he saw me

[00:14:13] Creating video content as I'm walking around with this smartphone. I was like sure. I'll talk on it

[00:14:18] And that inspired me to say hey, I can now write a book on how to increase this and in fact now it's a published book

[00:14:26] called iPhone video production and

[00:14:29] but that

[00:14:30] Processed sit said you know showed me like maybe I can record a course on it

[00:14:36] So just like you were spending an hour setting up your studio space for your podcast

[00:14:40] I spent about two hours in my basement

[00:14:44] And I bought this little vinyl backdrop and you know, I tried to do this and when a student found out the camera

[00:14:50] Yes, what happened

[00:14:52] Nothing

[00:14:54] I couldn't speak

[00:14:55] I didn't know how to start the conversation

[00:14:58] right, I didn't I didn't have that

[00:15:01] Part of the reps put in yeah, so yes go back to the question

[00:15:06] When you have a higher production

[00:15:08] Produced space or a curated space when you put on that shirt

[00:15:14] That gives you that superpower. It's almost like putting on a superhero

[00:15:18] You know what

[00:15:20] Why do super heroes wear that costume?

[00:15:24] It gives them an image brands them. It's like I can do anything when I'm wearing this

[00:15:30] I can do anything

[00:15:32] When I'm in this suit

[00:15:34] So when people show up in physical spaces in their suits, they're like I'm ready to do anything. I have the confidence

[00:15:41] I have the authority and it commands that so when you set up your space

[00:15:47] That's professional looking yes

[00:15:49] You want to do the authentic content where you're on the street or out

[00:15:54] Side you're with your family and you're creating content in your phone. That's perfectly fine

[00:15:58] Yeah, right

[00:15:59] My friend Ken Ocasaki talks about the Will Smith effect

[00:16:03] So Will Smith have a ton of

[00:16:06] Well-polished production through the movies that he's produced

[00:16:10] And that he did a ton of videos on his phone during the pandemic so that's the Will Smith

[00:16:15] So you got you got to show both sides of you

[00:16:18] So people say the real you so I'd say

[00:16:22] Absolutely, it helps with the perceived the perception of people watching you. Oh my god

[00:16:29] This person actually took the time to put on a shirt to put on lights to put on you know this

[00:16:36] uh

[00:16:38] Persona for me yeah to teach what they're about

[00:16:42] my friend is a Bella who I met at

[00:16:45] podcast and

[00:16:47] the

[00:16:49] You're that can't the

[00:16:51] Capture Capture me live yeah, she's been creating a ton of content in her room

[00:16:56] And then when she stepped up and she rented a studio space to create more content people reached out to her more

[00:17:03] Yeah, they're like oh my god. What you talking about is mind blowing the video quality stopped me

[00:17:11] from scrolling to feed in an i paid attention and then i listened

[00:17:14] Yeah

[00:17:15] I think uh when we

[00:17:17] You know

[00:17:18] I guess quick timeline on studios right like from the office corner that we had like a couple superhero like

[00:17:24] Backdrops in there and then we went to our home studio, which was an extra room in our house

[00:17:29] We were doing a standing up right we had a couple personal things. We had a content's profit

[00:17:33] You know pressing that we got from done and and now whenever we upgraded to this studio right whenever that upgrade happened here

[00:17:40] I also felt like there was like more

[00:17:43] I guess like respect in a sense right or people reaching out be like wow

[00:17:47] That looks amazing guys and and you could actually feel that right but I think is also like part of the journey

[00:17:53] Right because if you have all the equipment then

[00:17:55] And then like you say you freeze

[00:17:57] It's gonna be really challenging to go that and I remember being at what I think it was like the second event

[00:18:02] Second potfels that we ever went to and you see all the vendors right and it's really exciting because you see like this

[00:18:08] Mic alarms and the new microphones are the new technology and the new cameras and the podcast desk and all these stuff

[00:18:13] And full possibilities and you know for a visionary like like us we get so excited

[00:18:18] I'm like, oh these looks this will look right here. No

[00:18:21] And I remember having a conversation with a gentleman that he had a big list

[00:18:25] And it's a ton of items that was there and you remember he told me it's like yeah

[00:18:29] This is gonna be like 5,000 to 7,000. I'm so excited. I'm like who that's so cool. What's your podcast about? He's like I haven't started one yet

[00:18:37] Oh

[00:18:39] Boy oh boy. I froze like I get me you know

[00:18:44] Chills and we started having a conversation of like why was he willing to invest that amount of money

[00:18:49] And then he goes out to tell me that he tried to launch a podcast twice and because he didn't have the right equipment

[00:18:54] He stopped and that belief

[00:18:58] To me

[00:19:00] Is nonsense first

[00:19:02] I think you're like doesn't excuse

[00:19:04] Massive excuse

[00:19:06] But again, I mean, I'm sure he had his own reasons on on why that belief you know was coming from but I want to encourage people

[00:19:13] To be like don't be don't be that person right start putting your message out there because gonna get you the reps and as

[00:19:19] You evolve and you you move on and your production, you know level goes higher and higher

[00:19:24] People are gonna notice that and they're gonna congratulate you. I mean it's all part of the journey

[00:19:28] So enjoy enjoy the journey and I think that's why we today appreciate so much

[00:19:32] You know what you teach and what you have and what you show is every single week in our mastermind right and I'm like oh

[00:19:38] This is so cool. Let me try that out and

[00:19:40] You know that my testing grant, I guess is is our home studio now

[00:19:44] Why not something I wrote this the other day still in the draft stage

[00:19:49] I haven't finished it

[00:19:50] But I think it goes hand in hand with what you were sharing right now about Isabella as well red

[00:19:54] I called it unlock content reputation

[00:19:58] Why do people tune into personalities like or mostly, you know Gary V

[00:20:03] Junet right like the bisfills why does it tune in?

[00:20:07] The reason they listen to them is the thing that will unlock your content and the perspective with which you create

[00:20:13] It is reputation and status. What do you think when you see them on your feed

[00:20:19] Why do you stop and listen to them is not because of their great looks or their cool locations

[00:20:24] It might be their great looks you know knows

[00:20:27] Is because in your mind they have created a reputation of sorts if you are in the coaching entrepreneurial space mostly a reputation of delivering

[00:20:37] Results your deepest ones are driving your consumption. Here's an interesting way of thinking about this

[00:20:43] Why do people believe everything they see online?

[00:20:46] Because we assume they have reputation until proven otherwise or constant search for status

[00:20:54] Makes people with reputation very

[00:20:57] Appealing so again, I'm still working a little bit on that but

[00:21:00] What I'm trying to say and that was like a moment of inspiration the other day. I have a huge moment of clarity

[00:21:06] Is that production can drive that perception of status of reputation right sure you have to prove it

[00:21:16] Right once you start talking with your message right with your tonality your eloquence the value that you're delivering through your message

[00:21:23] You have to prove it your reputation not only once

[00:21:27] But if you catch people's attention, they're probably going to go to your content and they're gonna start consuming a little bit more

[00:21:32] They're gonna start learning a little bit more about what you do. Do you have any social proof right and now

[00:21:37] You know is you gotta walk the walk that is not just talk the why you got to walk it as well

[00:21:43] But I think you know now that we're having this conversation

[00:21:46] That's where I place a lot of their production value. It's a great way

[00:21:51] To separate yourself from the people in the middle right and tell the person that is watching you maybe for the first time

[00:21:59] Hey, look I have a reputation now with your message. You gotta show it to them. You gotta prove what that reputation is

[00:22:09] And I love that reputation is is what brings them

[00:22:14] closer to you

[00:22:16] and

[00:22:17] Yes, the unfortunate fact is we've been teach we've been taught that you gotta just put out a ton of content

[00:22:25] constantly and yes, it's great to put out that kind of content but

[00:22:29] Don't believe that you're gonna be the best the first time you put it out

[00:22:33] My one of my favorite people in the world Seth go didn't talk about you know

[00:22:39] people come to him look and ask and tell them they can I want a new York bestseller book

[00:22:45] And he asks them well where is your bad writing

[00:22:50] It's like what do you talk about like where's your bad writing? Where's your bad stuff

[00:22:53] Like I don't have any best stuff like well, then you how are you gonna get to the good stuff

[00:22:57] You gotta get through the best stuff to get to the good stuff

[00:23:00] And that's why like teachers in school talk to you about free writing and you know when English composition just right right right

[00:23:07] I'm gonna get all the dirty stuff out and then you start coming with the good stuff

[00:23:12] Yeah

[00:23:13] He's he's known for and you probably know this he's been writing

[00:23:18] In newsletter or a email every single day for the past

[00:23:22] I do not know how many years. Yeah, and today's one really hit the nail

[00:23:27] He talks about curation versus the road

[00:23:32] To junk

[00:23:33] I'm like okay, this is interesting. He's like

[00:23:37] Amazon doesn't care

[00:23:40] About the shelf space problem because they have a ton of shelf space but a

[00:23:45] A bookstore down the street an independent bookstreet

[00:23:48] bookstore down the street will carefully

[00:23:50] curate what books day store in there because they don't have an unlimited space

[00:23:54] They have very limited space and we're like that's interesting because each book

[00:24:00] Takes up a spot that a different book can could easily inhabit right and

[00:24:05] And same thing with YouTube YouTube have hundreds and thousands of hours of videos being uploaded every single minute

[00:24:13] It's mind blowing because they're counting on

[00:24:17] The person listing and watching the key content is the one who's going to curate right so

[00:24:24] Coming to that and it's interesting to say to see you know

[00:24:27] Being a publisher versus a creator. It puts a really strong

[00:24:32] Information on you it's like hey

[00:24:34] Either you sell everything or you only put one specific thing your name on

[00:24:39] And I think a really great example is Mark Rover who only puts out one video a month

[00:24:44] He gets multi-million views because his focus says hey, I'm gonna make one video

[00:24:50] For the people that have never ever seen me before

[00:24:55] Yeah, nothing that's a that's a really powerful and that's where the content

[00:24:59] is

[00:25:01] That's the type of content that makes you profit

[00:25:04] I love it. I mean

[00:25:07] I agree 100% on

[00:25:11] On how you approach this and at the same time

[00:25:16] I think we need to align and understand how we also like to create right because you know

[00:25:22] The one daily email for example, that could be a daily video for somebody else

[00:25:25] Understanding the platform so you know fancy life to write like that article

[00:25:30] Mindblown great awesome. You say it's a draft publish it. Why is not out?

[00:25:34] But on my side

[00:25:36] That to me personally creates a ton of friction to write stuff like that

[00:25:40] So I might think about two three bullet points and for me

[00:25:44] I will probably see more value on creating a minute clip of something like that

[00:25:49] Off the cuff

[00:25:50] Following my bullet points to a camera. Yeah, would that hit maybe?

[00:25:54] I don't know but that's my style to put the content out there

[00:25:56] So I think that's also super important because you know in the production level we hear so much like oh

[00:26:01] You should be on YouTube. Oh, you should start a podcast or you should write a newsletter every single day

[00:26:06] And what people don't account for is that they'll try to model something

[00:26:10] That somebody told us told them on a mastermind or an event and they create a ton of friction and then what happens is like

[00:26:18] Execution is not there. Yeah, and then

[00:26:21] Nothing gets out. So start identifying

[00:26:24] Why do you like try writing every day if that's not your thing?

[00:26:28] Perfect try a video every day. If that's not your thing

[00:26:32] perfect try

[00:26:34] Not doing anything every day

[00:26:36] I don't know but we had an example which we're sharing the Captain Slay which is this lady that she was convinced for two years

[00:26:41] We met her two years and two years she was saying I want to launch a podcast

[00:26:45] I want to launch a podcast. I'm convinced this is the thing because somebody told her in a mastermind

[00:26:49] And I was like perfect

[00:26:51] You know we can produce it, but let's jump on a strategy called beforehand to

[00:26:55] To die deep of why you want to be a spot guy's or if it fits your business model. She had a brick and mortar

[00:27:02] Um kind of his business right? I'm like in my head

[00:27:04] I haven't really and we consume a ton of content

[00:27:07] I haven't seen that specific one

[00:27:09] I've seen a lot of kind of behind the scenes in the shops or like things that are happening in there for that type of business

[00:27:14] And we start devying will turns out

[00:27:16] She doesn't own equipment. She doesn't like to be on camera

[00:27:20] She doesn't like to record audio for example, right? There's a ton of friction and for her

[00:27:27] It was very exciting to sit down in her down hour. I'm right

[00:27:32] So she ended up doing a like a three time a week newsletter instead of a three time a week podcast

[00:27:37] Which is what she thought she wanted

[00:27:39] so

[00:27:40] What you said great 100% on my side is

[00:27:44] Find the vehicle that creates a least friction for you to create and then from there. Yeah

[00:27:51] Yes, there's tools and tactics and there's

[00:27:53] Platforms that will allow you to get more traffic and start identifying who can help you based on your initial content

[00:28:00] So from my one minute video we could potentially hire somebody that really enjoys writing or fauncy can take that video

[00:28:06] And take that idea further and they can write it and then he's a great article which is for the company

[00:28:11] So anyways, that's my that's my two cents on

[00:28:15] On your incredible point. Let's live let's have a little bit into

[00:28:21] The tactical stuff right what we promise earlier. I'm curious

[00:28:26] Definitely there's different levels right somebody that might have very little equipment to know equipment

[00:28:31] Just her phone

[00:28:32] There's also people that have more resources and are willing to invest so let's try to tackle a little bit of both right

[00:28:37] What is a way?

[00:28:39] To increase production value a simple quick way for somebody to increase production value

[00:28:45] That at the moment they might not have their financial resources to invest into a lot of equipment

[00:28:50] But you know, they're ready come with a phone or a you know entry-level camera

[00:28:56] How can they make it look good

[00:29:00] Well, it's all about lighting right getting the lighting correct on your setup

[00:29:05] Making sure that the room that you're shooting in or and you'll see a lot of people shoot outside

[00:29:11] Because we have really nice lighting outside, you know

[00:29:14] The sun is out and maybe you're using the shade

[00:29:16] Or maybe you know you're you're lit up properly and when we set up studios

[00:29:20] We light the space in a way that mimics that daylight lighting

[00:29:25] You know the shadows in the right place the the softness of large light sources

[00:29:32] You're trying to mimic that when you're creating your content when you're using using your phone

[00:29:37] So that might be the level one the novice, you know

[00:29:41] They're discovering their initial setup. They're starting with basic gear

[00:29:46] You know they're understanding the significance of their space and what the acoustic potential could be

[00:29:51] And the beautiful part of these smartphones that we have now, you know

[00:29:55] We've had these smartphones for the past

[00:29:57] Almost 17 years. I mean they've come a long way

[00:30:02] There's full feature films being produced

[00:30:06] Using these cameras in fact apple that their last event in October

[00:30:11] Using the iPhone 15 pro max yeah all the video was shot on the camera on the phone camera

[00:30:19] Turned an external drive what what was different still

[00:30:23] Well

[00:30:25] Was sorry what what the only thing that changed in the entire setup was the camera that we're using so instead of using a red or something else

[00:30:33] The use the iPhone as a camera, but the lighting they spent 120,000 dollars on lighting. Yeah

[00:30:40] Right, so

[00:30:41] Audio again, so you want to make sure that your your writing is your

[00:30:45] Your lighting is good. Yeah, and your audio is good

[00:30:48] Think about those two things when you're getting started because people can't hear your message

[00:30:54] They can't follow along

[00:30:56] They get just gonna swipe up to the next video. All right, so focus on getting good lighting and good video

[00:31:02] And good audio into that microphone

[00:31:06] Into that video

[00:31:09] And the cheapest way to get started is you can get a laugh mic and there's you know $20 microphones

[00:31:14] Just plug it in and you're getting really high quality. So that's level one the novice getting started and

[00:31:22] Did you know that's how you could start?

[00:31:24] I love it a lot of people will think which was my mindset initially too is like the camera

[00:31:29] And it's not about the camera right like you mentioned a couple things that you know the cameras almost last there

[00:31:34] It's like lighting and the microphone, right?

[00:31:37] And I remember when we when you got the first light that we ever got which is you know takes half the room

[00:31:42] But it's amazing. We look beautiful in them

[00:31:46] They light on that thing

[00:31:49] It's clearly not here in the studio

[00:31:52] I'm still at home, but uh, but yeah, I'm fonsey was like everyone's like it's all about the light

[00:31:57] And it's crazy like once you get it right

[00:32:00] Um, the camera really becomes the last thing because you know like you said with smartphones

[00:32:04] It's come a long way. It's really exciting

[00:32:06] Yeah, you actually can set up yourself again depending on the day

[00:32:10] But if you have a window close to you

[00:32:12] You can put yourself next to the window and that's a great light source for you know early stage video production

[00:32:20] Right if you're shooting something on your phone some sort of selfie video

[00:32:24] Get yourself next to the window don't shoot with the window behind you because you're just gonna look like a villain

[00:32:31] Right have a kind of like at a angle to your face a little bit diagonal

[00:32:35] And you're gonna look very very nice

[00:32:37] Honestly, that was a live

[00:32:39] Changing concept for me when I first understand it started understanding lighting

[00:32:45] Because I remember going to restaurants when we're first you know diving to the digital marketing world

[00:32:50] We're going to restaurants and we're taking pictures of their products

[00:32:53] And I'll look at this office like why doesn't it look like this other pictures

[00:32:56] I'm taking it with a nice camera. Why doesn't it look good?

[00:33:00] Then out there stood

[00:33:01] Lighting and also understood that I had to edit the pictures. I didn't know that

[00:33:05] You know it's quite terrible

[00:33:07] But that was a good good idea now

[00:33:11] Let's say we nailed down lighting. We understand that now okay how

[00:33:14] You know, we can start creating a little bit of contrast on the back if you're seeing you native right now

[00:33:19] You can see he has you know a little bit of background lighting in there with the red the blue

[00:33:24] Creates a little bit of contrast between him and the background we got a

[00:33:29] very

[00:33:30] Terrible version of that here

[00:33:33] That creates a little bit of back a little bit of contrast between us and the background

[00:33:38] What else? How can they go after they master lighting what would be the next step for them to create a good production

[00:33:45] So level two is what I call the hobbyist they have enhanced equipment and sound proofing right so

[00:33:52] You you've got a good audio you got good microphone and you're like okay, how can I level up my audio?

[00:33:57] So again you want to again focus on that audio your first budget should go into

[00:34:02] sound proofing or

[00:34:04] Sound dampening or some kind of sound absorption audio treatment is what you want to spend time on in your space

[00:34:12] And you'll hear a lot of video calls. There's a lot of echo

[00:34:16] There's a lot of echo and people can't you know, it's just it's not it's not comfortable yeah, it's not good to listen to it to your ears

[00:34:24] So you want to invest in a microphone that you can afford and you can start anywhere from $50 to $100 or $250

[00:34:31] That's gonna get you

[00:34:33] Really good audio and how important is the audio

[00:34:38] I was at an event at a dinner party and

[00:34:41] Somebody leaned over and it's like hey are you donate from Chris's meeting? I'm like yes, it's like I could I recognize you from your voice

[00:34:49] because he'd heard me

[00:34:51] On Zoom calls prior you know prior prior months so he was able to recognize me because

[00:34:58] Our voices are signature our voices are

[00:35:01] Thumbprint that people can recognize as soon as they listen to it

[00:35:05] Yeah, that's a great tip looking you know in hindsight the project is that I

[00:35:10] Hate to edit the most are there ones?

[00:35:14] Especially when people come here to the studio and they're like yeah our guests is coming online

[00:35:17] I'm like

[00:35:18] I

[00:35:20] Hope they know what they're doing and then I when I do the audio check and it's somebody you know pretty much sitting in a box

[00:35:27] With all the echo in the world and no headphones and there's feedback on the you know on the audio like

[00:35:35] Oh, please save me this is gonna be rough right but yes great audio is awesome

[00:35:41] You know, I love tuning into podcasts that

[00:35:44] You can hear good sound good quality sound now. I will say this

[00:35:49] I think our beliefs still stands on you know quality of the message

[00:35:52] Over quality of the production so

[00:35:55] Get the reps we talked about that a lot right get the reps get the reps practice because you can have the best mic in the world

[00:36:01] But if what you're sharing is not good when you listen to it

[00:36:05] You're gonna be discouraged of

[00:36:07] keeping the creation efforts at bay

[00:36:10] So make sure you are practicing and putting your message out into the world

[00:36:14] But good audio makes a huge huge difference

[00:36:18] Did

[00:36:19] Go ahead, sorry

[00:36:20] Yeah, so the hobby is also you know

[00:36:22] They also start to see the importance of visual aesthetics and you know like oh do I look good

[00:36:28] I've already paid attention on you know using the window as my main light

[00:36:32] But what's in my background do I have

[00:36:34] You know Dury laundry do I have my bed not made up do I have a sofa with a dog sitting

[00:36:40] That's pretty that's a actually good touch

[00:36:42] But again, you know you want to look at what is the camera seeing and when I saw myself on camera

[00:36:49] From my previous recording in 2019 in 2020 and early 2020

[00:36:52] It's like oh my god. This just looks horrible any two switch this around so this room that you see here

[00:36:58] I actually flipped the whole room because before my desk used to be back there and I would see

[00:37:04] um

[00:37:06] Let's see these two windows in the camera of the guy need to switch it around

[00:37:09] So I switched it around you know in the basement

[00:37:12] It made the huge difference because now I had windows in front of me. Yeah

[00:37:17] So

[00:37:18] Did you know obviously you have a ton of resources right that you know every time we have a question and equipment

[00:37:22] We're reaching out to you like those all the secrets how can we do this?

[00:37:27] So we're definitely gonna link everything right below right here

[00:37:31] And I encourage people go dive deep

[00:37:34] You know adjunate in any social media. I'm sure like he's super accessible

[00:37:39] If you get a thousand messages, you know, it's definitely from this show

[00:37:43] So careful with the inbox

[00:37:45] But uh, you know as we wrap up man, thank you so much for for diving into this

[00:37:49] I think this is great

[00:37:50] It's one of the stages that we talked about on the creation side like how do we remove friction so we can actually create

[00:37:55] And I love that you have these levels right where people kind of accept be like perfect

[00:37:58] I am here at this moment. That's not gonna stop me from creating

[00:38:03] Is actually gonna encourage me to put in the reps so that we can level up and move forward right?

[00:38:07] So if

[00:38:08] If you're listening you want to find out what the other five stages are send us a message

[00:38:12] We're happy to help you on that side of things with the full

[00:38:15] Profit levers, but you know is there anything else that you want to add before we head out

[00:38:20] You know, uh, I love what you said, you know

[00:38:21] You got to put in the reps you got to get started where you are right now because there are people

[00:38:27] that are in the same

[00:38:29] Stage or phase that you're in and when you start

[00:38:33] Creating content from the current stage. You're gonna attract a lot of followers

[00:38:38] They're like oh my god. I'm feeling the same thing

[00:38:40] I'm gonna follow you and every once in a while you see a post where somebody asks the question

[00:38:45] And you'll see a ton of people saying I'm following I'm following I'm following because they want the answers to the same question

[00:38:51] so get started and

[00:38:54] guys, I've got a

[00:38:57] free gift for the listeners. It's called the seven stages of home studio evolution from beginner to broadcast quality
