In a world where the next viral hit could be just a post away, it's tempting to cut corners.
But here's the thing: there's a right way and a wrong way to catch the spotlight.
On the latest episode of the Content Is Profit podcast, we delve into a hot topic: unethical content creation in marketing.
We spotlight a video that went viral for all the wrong reasons. It promoted plagiarism to score quick wins on social media. It got us thinking – is this the legacy we want to leave in the digital world?
Here's what we learned: Authenticity isn't just a buzzword. It's the foundation of trust between us and our audience. It's about showing up, originality in hand, and sharing our true voice.
And let's be real, copying someone else's work or relying on AI to mimic creativity?
That's not going to build the lasting connections we're all chasing.
The conversation steered towards embracing long-form content.
Why?
Because it's our chance to dive deep, share our expertise, and truly connect. It's about offering real value, not just a fleeting moment of entertainment.
So, here's to making a pledge for integrity in our content.
It's about creating something that matters. It's about creating something that resonates.
Most importantly, it's about creating something that's genuinely ours.
Join us in this conversation.
Let's share, learn, and grow together.
We're committed to raising the bar for ethical content creation.
Catch you on the ethical side.

[00:00:00] Fancy sent me this video on social media yesterday and rage came upon me in a sense, right?
[00:00:06] Yeah, I feel like we should pick a fight with the guy that made this video. Like we should literally...
[00:00:11] Are you actually saying something that you know, that you've learned, that you've tested?
[00:00:16] Don't just go paste it on AI and tell them write the same thing in a different way. Like dude, that is so freaking unethical.
[00:00:25] It's almost like lying, right? Leveraging this. And what sucks is that...
[00:00:29] That's not...
[00:00:30] That's not right.
[00:00:30] That's not what I personally want to be sharing with our clients.
[00:00:35] If you are authentic, right? And not everything is perfect.
[00:00:38] That's when people are going to start seeing that as more valuable.
[00:00:41] Bring out the boxing gloves.
[00:00:44] Hey, I'm Luis!
[00:00:45] And I'm Luis!
[00:00:47] And you're listening to the Content Is Profit Podcast.
[00:00:55] Welcome back to Content Is Profit.
[00:00:57] We just recorded like five minutes and then it all went to...
[00:01:03] You know, to not say bad words. It just went bad. It just went south.
[00:01:07] Went to hell.
[00:01:09] Anyways, we have a special episode today.
[00:01:12] Fonzie sent me this video on social media yesterday and rage came upon me in a sense, right?
[00:01:18] Yeah. And so you have a sense of what we're talking about.
[00:01:20] We're talking about ethics in content creation.
[00:01:23] That's right. And you know, Fonzie sends me a lot of videos.
[00:01:26] And usually my response to them is like, I'm going to ignore them because it might be some type of knowledge or thing.
[00:01:33] But I, you know...
[00:01:34] Knowledge.
[00:01:35] I'm over knowledge at the moment.
[00:01:36] I'm in execution mode.
[00:01:37] Cue in Tai Lopez.
[00:01:38] Knowledge.
[00:01:39] Uh, we've learned a ton.
[00:01:41] We have a lot of potential knowledge.
[00:01:42] We talked about this this morning and it's execution time, baby.
[00:01:45] Uh, but anyway, so this video, I just gave it a chance.
[00:01:49] And after seeing it, it tactically maybe a cool thing, but at the same time, the way that it was,
[00:01:55] that people might take it, it would not be ethical to do it.
[00:02:00] So I think it walks in a very thin line between, you know, ethical content and unethical content.
[00:02:08] Yeah.
[00:02:09] And I think it's important to mention too, that we kind of got our education in marketing
[00:02:13] in an industry that not necessarily talks about copying other people's work, but they do talk a
[00:02:19] lot about model what works.
[00:02:21] Right.
[00:02:21] Yeah.
[00:02:21] But the guy, you know, explicitly talks about do not steal from other people.
[00:02:27] Mainly he goes like model what works, you know, learn from what they're doing, you know.
[00:02:31] Model is keyword.
[00:02:32] Yeah.
[00:02:32] You can learn from the structure.
[00:02:34] You can learn from the words that they use, but like when you put out work, like it has to be your own.
[00:02:39] Yeah.
[00:02:39] Keep in mind too.
[00:02:40] Like this is with context of the video.
[00:02:42] It's like, Hey, if you want more views and you want to be famous AF,
[00:02:46] Deanna thinking that's what it is.
[00:02:48] So, uh, I don't think on our side, we agree with that.
[00:02:52] Right.
[00:02:52] Like if you want to put content out there is for value for people to learn.
[00:02:55] And yes, there are tactics that you can, that you can follow and levers that you can pull.
[00:03:00] But, uh, but that, you know, depends on what your goal is.
[00:03:03] So yeah, I mean, there's a thousand other things that you have to control or like be able to manage
[00:03:09] for your content to be successful in your eyes.
[00:03:11] Right.
[00:03:12] Yeah.
[00:03:12] I mean, we're going to play the video, right?
[00:03:14] So you can hear the audio of it.
[00:03:16] But the main thing is he, he's promising virality.
[00:03:19] It's like, Hey, look, you can go viral every single time if you do this.
[00:03:23] And then as you will see in the video goes ahead and proceed to pretty much
[00:03:27] still other, other people's content.
[00:03:30] Right.
[00:03:30] And you know, if you are a coach consultant, right?
[00:03:34] Speaker, somebody that has IP, like this does not benefit you.
[00:03:39] Maybe grabbing ideas and modeling ideas from other accounts that have gone viral, you know,
[00:03:47] and why would people want to go viral?
[00:03:49] People relate obviously virality with more traffic, therefore potentially more people
[00:03:53] converting to their offers.
[00:03:55] But we can attest that virality doesn't necessarily means a successful business, right?
[00:04:00] You don't need to go viral to have a successful business.
[00:04:03] Yeah.
[00:04:03] That aside.
[00:04:04] Speaker 2 We recently actually have a story with somebody that we worked at, we looked at
[00:04:07] all the data for the past year, everything increased 40%, 50%, 100 plus percent on certain aspects
[00:04:14] with the framework that's working.
[00:04:16] And they're still looking to make changes because that did not translate into sales.
[00:04:20] Yeah.
[00:04:20] Right.
[00:04:21] Yeah.
[00:04:21] And it social media growth doesn't mean that your business is going to thrive.
[00:04:25] So yeah, exactly.
[00:04:26] Speaker 2 So that being said, we're going to play you the video right now and look at it
[00:04:30] through the eyes again of modeling.
[00:04:32] They use a lot the word steel, which I don't know if they did it on purpose to trigger people
[00:04:38] and then people, you know, I know a lot of people that use this type of techniques to get people
[00:04:42] to engage in the comments.
[00:04:44] Yeah.
[00:04:44] But I don't see this one as a very good one because it's going to engage people in a very negative way.
[00:04:49] So let's dive into the video.
[00:04:51] Yeah.
[00:04:51] Let's play right here.
[00:04:52] And then we'll do some of the commenting.
[00:04:54] Speaker 1 You can go viral on Instagram every single time.
[00:04:56] It's not luck.
[00:04:57] It's calculated.
[00:04:58] I've used this three step process many times to create viral videos like this, this, and this.
[00:05:02] Step one, head over to the site called viral finder and input the username of someone who's
[00:05:06] absolutely crushing it in your niche.
[00:05:07] Once you do so, you'll get a list of their most popular videos.
[00:05:10] Step two, download their video using snap,
[00:05:12] insta and throw it into Descript.
[00:05:13] Then wait for it to transcribe the entire video script.
[00:05:16] Step three, copy and paste the fully transcribed script.
[00:05:19] Then open up chat GPT and put down this exact prompt you see on the screen right now.
[00:05:22] In a few seconds, you'll have a much more engaging version of the script that you stole.
[00:05:26] Record it, post it, and get ready to become f**king famous.
[00:05:28] Speaker 1 All right.
[00:05:29] All right.
[00:05:30] Quick little video in there.
[00:05:32] I mean, I will add, I do love the energy, what he shares with stuff.
[00:05:36] I do like the edits.
[00:05:38] I think the edits are pretty good, but pretty much he is talking about stealing other people's work.
[00:05:44] And let's work part by part the process.
[00:05:48] Number one, find an account that has good viral videos and input it into the website that he shared.
[00:05:56] I think it was like viral finders, right?
[00:05:59] And then it will give you their best content.
[00:06:02] I think that is a great tool, honestly.
[00:06:04] Yeah.
[00:06:04] That tool, I haven't heard of it, but I think it's a great tool for you to-
[00:06:08] We've heard of similar ones.
[00:06:09] Yeah, we've heard of similar ones, but it helps you sort through the non-performing content.
[00:06:14] So then again, if you want to model, not steal, those good performing contents can be some sort
[00:06:21] of reference for you to move on to.
[00:06:23] So-
[00:06:23] I mean, we talk about that often in like the first pillar, right?
[00:06:26] Of the six elements that we say, it's like, what do we say, right?
[00:06:29] Unless you're doing an interview, something different, definitely a good tool to have in your belt or your
[00:06:35] team to use as well.
[00:06:36] Yeah.
[00:06:36] Step two, he goes on now and downloads the video.
[00:06:40] Again, I don't think there's nothing bad in downloading the video, as long as you're not
[00:06:44] planning to use the same video, you know, and claiming obviously credits for yourself.
[00:06:49] If you plan on using it somewhere, I think you should text maybe the owner and tell them,
[00:06:53] hey, we're going to use your video for X, Y, and Z, but whatever.
[00:06:55] They're just using it for internal purposes, which is uploading it into Descript and transcribing
[00:07:01] it.
[00:07:02] Which again, at that point, I don't see anything, anything wrong with that.
[00:07:06] Cause it's all for internal purposes.
[00:07:09] They could use that transcript to now, you know, like learn, let's break it down.
[00:07:13] Why is this thing working here and there?
[00:07:16] And again, use it to model.
[00:07:18] But I think this is, this next step is the one that is a very fine line between,
[00:07:23] you know, the borderline between ethical and unethical content.
[00:07:28] Yeah.
[00:07:29] And the next that it takes.
[00:07:30] Oh yeah, go ahead.
[00:07:30] No, I'm, I'm, I'm just saying everybody is free to do whatever they want.
[00:07:34] But at the end of the day, um, if you really want to build a personality, a brand, if you
[00:07:40] want to be known as a thought leader, right?
[00:07:42] I don't think this, uh, reflects that because the next part, which is the, the prompt, right?
[00:07:47] That he does with chat GPT, um, is almost, I don't know.
[00:07:51] Are you going to read it?
[00:07:52] Yeah, actually there's a comment here that wrote down the prompt.
[00:07:57] So I'm, I read the prompt, right?
[00:07:59] And again, we nowadays is people are using AI a lot for their content, which is fine.
[00:08:08] Yeah, I think it's fine.
[00:08:08] I think there's proper ways to use it.
[00:08:11] I am not the believer on AI creating all the content for you and doing it all for you.
[00:08:17] Like sure.
[00:08:18] It can help you kickstart, you know, fill a little bit of the blank page and then you
[00:08:22] put your IP, you put your stories infuse it with your energy.
[00:08:26] Like you become the creator.
[00:08:27] And AI is sort of a helper along the journey.
[00:08:31] But this is the prompt that was shared on that video.
[00:08:35] Rewrite the script at the end of this prompt to create an educational, informative one minute video.
[00:08:39] Keep in mind that the video script will be read out loud and not shown on the screen.
[00:08:43] The script should follow the following format.
[00:08:45] Hook, describe the problem in more detail.
[00:08:47] Discuss the solution.
[00:08:48] Give more detail of examples of the solution.
[00:08:50] Call to action.
[00:08:51] The hook should start with one of the following lines adapted to the topic.
[00:08:55] The easiest way for you to give me 30 seconds and I'll show you two.
[00:08:59] And he goes ahead and puts like two more.
[00:09:00] And then he goes, total script should be a maximum of 120 words with extremely conversational tone
[00:09:06] and casual word choice.
[00:09:08] Here's the script to rewrite.
[00:09:09] And then paste the script that you transcribe in this script.
[00:09:13] Yeah.
[00:09:14] He's literally not adding anything of his own to this.
[00:09:19] He is in a sense plagiarizing somebody's content to just put it out there.
[00:09:26] Personally, I believe this is unethical.
[00:09:29] Now, the workflow I think is great.
[00:09:32] Sure, go and sort out good performing content.
[00:09:37] Transcribe the content.
[00:09:38] But rather than plagiarizing it, use, learn the structure of that content.
[00:09:44] Add your own information.
[00:09:45] Add your own stories.
[00:09:47] Like, use that as a base for your own good performing content.
[00:09:52] Don't just go paste it on AI and tell them, write the same thing in a different way.
[00:09:58] Like, dude, that is so freaking unethical.
[00:10:01] Yeah.
[00:10:01] I just see, I mean, I just see like best case scenario for this type of stuff, right?
[00:10:05] Content works.
[00:10:06] Let's say you get a ton of content, ton of engagement.
[00:10:08] People comment to me like, wow, this is so smart.
[00:10:10] So awesome.
[00:10:11] How do I work with you?
[00:10:12] Perfect.
[00:10:12] You close that sale.
[00:10:13] And then they really want to learn that thing, right?
[00:10:15] Like, what are you going to do?
[00:10:16] Are you going to go ahead and learn it?
[00:10:18] Like, are you actually saying something that you know, that you've learned, that you've tested?
[00:10:26] That's where my conflict comes, right?
[00:10:28] At the end of the day, it's almost like lying, right?
[00:10:31] Leveraging this.
[00:10:31] And what sucks is that a lot of people are doing it and they're regurgitating other content that has been out there.
[00:10:39] So the same content is being recycled a thousand times, right?
[00:10:43] Literally.
[00:10:44] It's an unending cycle of recycleness.
[00:10:49] It's recycled between the AI and people copying the stuff.
[00:10:52] So again, that's why, you know, again, we're going to plug obviously the podcast because it's long form.
[00:10:57] There's no way of lying this.
[00:10:58] Like, clearly we do not ask CharGPT to tell us what the script for this video would be.
[00:11:02] Blood twist, actually.
[00:11:05] But at the end of the day, also you can use that long form to then be like,
[00:11:09] then you can leverage and use these steps to then leverage what you already created from your mind,
[00:11:14] from your framework, from your experiences, right?
[00:11:16] To then maybe create the bullet points of the script that you want to do.
[00:11:20] At the end of the day, you also know, people know if you're reading from a script or you're actually delivering the content.
[00:11:25] And believe me, in 2024 forward, like we said in our predictions episodes, right?
[00:11:30] Yep.
[00:11:30] People are going to lean more into trust with the people that are teaching them online or engaging with them online.
[00:11:37] So if you are authentic, right?
[00:11:39] And not everything is perfect, right?
[00:11:42] That's when people are going to start seeing that as more valuable.
[00:11:45] It is today, right?
[00:11:47] So I am sure 100% that if you see that video, there was a negative reaction in most of you watching this content right now with like,
[00:11:54] oh, is another of these marketing bros doing their thing?
[00:11:57] This is the meta creators, right?
[00:12:00] Or the creators that are talking about creation.
[00:12:04] And oh my gosh, there's a lot of them.
[00:12:06] I will say there's a lot of them that are absolutely amazing.
[00:12:09] We've had some of those here on the podcast.
[00:12:12] We've had some of them on the HubSpot Podcast Network.
[00:12:15] They're absolutely amazing, right?
[00:12:17] They do the work.
[00:12:18] They get in the trenches.
[00:12:19] They have small communities where they're consistently discussing, you know,
[00:12:23] how to become a better creator with their teams, with their community.
[00:12:28] But these meta creators that are just copying and pasting literally and describing is embarrassing.
[00:12:34] And there's literally a comment here that says creators, you know, in quotes,
[00:12:38] creators these days, embarrassing.
[00:12:41] It is.
[00:12:41] It is embarrassing.
[00:12:42] The fact that you're like, this is how you go by.
[00:12:45] You're trying to teach people how to do an ethical thing.
[00:12:47] No, like why instead, why don't you teach them to, you know, think for themselves?
[00:12:52] Sure.
[00:12:53] Maybe you can teach them frameworks and structures on how to create engaging videos,
[00:12:57] but let them do the creating, the creating aspect of it, right?
[00:13:01] Put your own IP, share your own stories,
[00:13:04] like develop your own personality and put it into the video or whatever it is, you know,
[00:13:11] the vehicle that you create on.
[00:13:12] That's why we know, like we, because we've had those conversations, right?
[00:13:15] We're part of that, you know, flow of, of things because we're very proud of what we created.
[00:13:20] And then to somebody come in and steal that, uh, freely.
[00:13:24] Right.
[00:13:24] And then maybe have more success because of like the top of funnel, whatever strategy that it is.
[00:13:30] At the end of the day, right?
[00:13:31] Uh, your content is going to attract the people that you really want in your life.
[00:13:35] And you're going to find out like, that might not be the right person that, that you might be attracting.
[00:13:39] Right.
[00:13:39] And then you will change and then you will go back to being yourself.
[00:13:44] Uh, if you want to really, uh, make a mark of a positive impact with the people that you're,
[00:13:49] you know, sharing your content with.
[00:13:50] So yeah, I feel like we should pick a fight with the guy that made this video.
[00:13:54] Like we should literally do a remix of his video roasting it.
[00:14:01] Sounds perfect.
[00:14:02] I mean, sure.
[00:14:03] It has a lot of view.
[00:14:03] It has a lot of followers, but at the end of the day, like it, it is unethical, right?
[00:14:08] Like that's not, that's not what I personally want to be sharing with our clients.
[00:14:13] Right.
[00:14:14] That's what I don't want to be sharing that with our community.
[00:14:17] I want people to be inspired to create with their own IP and their own stories, you know,
[00:14:23] maybe wake up and, you know, they're having a hard day.
[00:14:26] They're like, I know I need to create something.
[00:14:28] But, you know, once they created that, they feel good with themselves because they actually created this thing.
[00:14:35] They just didn't copy and paste it from somebody else.
[00:14:37] That's right.
[00:14:38] I mean, how sustainable is that?
[00:14:39] You're going to get bored real fast.
[00:14:41] Uh, anyways, rant over.
[00:14:44] Yeah.
[00:14:44] Let me, let me bring out the boxing gloves.
[00:14:47] That's right.
[00:14:47] Ding, ding, ding.
[00:14:48] I know that's fancy on it.
[00:14:49] But guys, with that said, thank you so much for tuning into the Contents Profit Podcast.
